“Money Loves Speed!”
Every time I hear someone say this I cringe inside.
Actually, that quick and ever-so-popular soundbite makes me want to throw up! (Sorry for the graphic talk, but really, it does.)
It’s been around for so long that everyone believes it without question. In fact, people often say it without thought. It’s like those things we were told as a child that now spill from our mouths on automatic speed dial… “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” “Don’t be too big for your britches.” “Because I said so…”
Money Loves Speed. I call this an urban myth – for business.
First of all, there is an incongruency because “money” doesn’t really love anything. Money doesn’t care.
We instinctively know that, so when I hear that phrase, I automatically doubt it.
Bold Action Attracts Money.
This is closer to the truth… wouldn’t you agree?
You see, I’m an action person, but I’m not necessarily a fast action person. Move fast, move quick, get it done now… that puts pressure on me. I’ll be honest; I resist pressure…. as a matter of fact, I avoid pressure. Sometimes I crumble under pressure. I go into second guessing under pressure. I have so many people in my life that need things from me (as many of us do) that it feels like one more rock on the load I’m carrying.
Now talk to me about being in alignment with my strengths and passions and taking bold, creative action.
I can get behind that!
And I’m all for a deadline, a focus, making decisions. I believe that’s really what this urban business myth is all about. It’s really about taking bold action… making sure it’s in alignment with your true self, allowing your creative voice to be heard and seen, and, yes, you gotta take action if you want to make money and attract clients.
But it doesn’t have to be wild, crazy fast.
Unless you want it to be!
You have permission to slow down, take time to breathe, and go rich, deep and be authentic to your heart’s message. That is a big part of my Courageous Creativity in Business message.
Honoring your authentic style… in your life, in your marketing, and throughout your business.
That is authentic business success.
This also takes practice. These urban business myths have been around for years. It’s easy to feel guilty because your intuitive sense tells you there is a different way to be in business.
That’s why it’s so important to surround yourself with like-minded creative people… who believe like you do and will support you in running your business with your heart… and your mind.
